You can learn something valuable through every experience
I work full-time as a public affairs specialist with the Wyoming Military Department, where my central focus is on photography and writing. I am also a traditional weekend Soldier in the Wyoming Army National Guard as a photographer, writer, and videographer. Most of my content-producing experience has been with the Army National Guard since I completed public affairs broadcast training in 2018.
I enjoy working on websites, even though it was through much trial and error in the beginning. Most of it was self-taught. I have been the primary website manager for the Wyoming Military Department since 2020, and I took on the additional duty in 2021 of redesigning the Wyoming Military Department website. I have experience with content management systems, most notably WordPress. Before that, I built websites with Adobe Muse before Adobe discontinued the program.
I started my graphic design journey for a small trophy shop in Cheyenne. After three years there, I decided to head to college and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wyoming, concentrating on graphic design. After college, my first design job was as a designer at a credit union for a short period. After a few years of not doing much design, I started doing freelance and designed my first website. I enlisted in the Wyoming Army National Guard in the fall of 2017 and finished training almost a year later as a broadcast communications specialist.
I've had an eclectic work history, having worked in jobs ranging from hard labor to desk jobs and retail. But from every position I've held, I've learned something valuable that I've used afterward in both work and life. I'm constantly trying to learn more by either taking classes through the military or on my own time. I get a sense of accomplishment when I discover something new that will make something easier to do in the future.
I enjoy the outdoors, so I love my position with the Army Guard, where most of my assignments take place outside. Previously, during college, I worked in the Cadastral Survey Department at the Bureau of Land Management. For two summers as a survey technician, I was outside working in Northern Wyoming almost every day. A job I will always look back on fondly.
I love to hike, camp, and mountain bike. So whenever I get the chance to, I'm ecstatic. I also enjoy fishing from time to time. Another one of my favorite outdoor activities is sitting around the campfire.
